pumpkin cupcakes with a cream cheese frosting

I woke up recently to windy weather, with highs of 74 degrees Fahrenheit, a stark contrast to the 102 temp we experienced the day before. In celebration, and in efforts to woo the Fall weather to stay a while, I decided to make something Pumpkin-y.

Luckily, someone else had posted on my dear friend Gina's wall, asking her for a pumpkin cupcake recipe. She suggested one she hadn't tried before, and it looked easy enough. I decided it needed a cream cheese frosting, so I whipped that up while they baked.

buns in the oven. LITERALLY.

the lighting in the kitchen really washed these out... they were kissed with gold.

My frosting. It was especially droopy and drippy, and I couldn't figure out why. I asked Gina, and after she heard all of my ingredients, we discovered my mistake: the recipe calls for softened cream cheese. Me not having the most baking experience thought this meant buying soft cream cheese (in the tubs). I was supposed to buy the bricks and let them soften at room temp. That was a good learning experience. Good news is it was still yummy and fattening.

The finished result, including my drippy frosting.

Gram enjoyed them.

At the end of the day I had reached my goal of having a yummy pumpkin-ish pastry, and I successfully reigned in the cooler weather for a week following. You're welcome, Sacramento.

a lifted face.

I didn't mean to... honestly. I was messing around with templates, and ended up losing my original, beautiful, SIMPLE template. So sad. I guess I've had this so long that my old template is old news.

Oh well, so is life. Time to move on. Bookshelves yesterday, utensils today, maybe something else tomorrow.
